Alliance Overview.
The Alliance was implemented to provide the members and their employees with
information and training on preventing exposure to glass and metal industry
hazards; fall and electrical hazards, air contaminants and hazardous chemicals.
Implementation Team Members.
Anthony Valente, LWD, Kevin Schloerb, Dave Petrone, Frank Miller III, Alan Oake,
John Quinnones, NJ Glass & Metal Contractors and Lou Lento, OSHA.
- Implementation Team Meetings
Quarterly Alliance Implementation Team meetings were conducted. The meetings
included S & H training.
- Activities and Products
Evaluation Period: 1-30-07 to 1-30-09
Alliance Activity:
- Training and Education – Fall protection, PPE and electrical safety for
the membership.
- Outreach and Communication: The Association sponsored refreshments at the
December 2008 meeting of the NNJFS&H Council. One member company took
advantage of the free OSHA On-Site Consultation Program and encouraged other
member companies to do the same.
- Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health: see above
Alliance Products.
- Training and Education: The Association worked through collective
bargaining to have the OSHA 10 and 30 become mandatory for union members and
foremen respectively.
- Outreach and Communication: Member firms encouraged to send employees to
the union training center to fulfill contractual obligations;
- Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health; see above.
This proactive Alliance resulted in the training of numerous employees within
the glass and metal industry. In addition, member firms received instruction on
workers comp policy concerning return to work issues, eye safety and the Safety
& Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).

- Upcoming Milestones
Although the Alliance expired, negotiations are underway to join up with the
Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 711 union to forge a new Alliance.
