Overview
To provide NPFVOA members and others with information, guidance, and access to
training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety,
particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to hazards associated with
material handling, walking working surfaces, machine guarding and maintenance
procedures, chemicals and emergency planning.

Safety and health training needs and goals were discussed during the three
outreach sessions that were held at the NFPVOA facility on: December 7, 2007,
January 7, 2008, and March 11, 2008.

OSHA attended the Pacific Marine Expo at the Quest Field Event Center in
Seattle. OSHA staff visited with the NPFVOA members at the conference and
discussed the current safety and health regulatory issues.

December 7, 2007: A round table discussion on Ground fault Circuit Interrupters
was held at the NPFVOA office at the Fishermen’s Terminal.
January 7, 2008: Provided a presentation on Arc Flash Hazard and Personal
Protective Equipment to the Vessel Safety Program Manager and fishing vessels
safety professionals at the NPFVOA office at the Fishermen’s Terminal. The
discussion covered selected parts of the NFPA 70E and the relevant OSHA’s
Safety-Related Work Practices.
March 11, 2008: A round table forum on the OSHA Proposed Standard, General
Working Conditions in Shipyard Employment; Proposed Rule, was held at the NPFVOA
office at the Fishermen’s Terminal.
- Products
OSHA submitted two articles for publication in NPFVOA’s Vessel Safety Program
Newsletter that were published in the 2008 edition. One of the articles
explained how to establish and implement a safety and health management system
and the other discussed the upcoming public hearings on OSHA’s proposed rule on
general working conditions in shipyard employment.
OSHA responded to questions and provided guidance concerning safety and health
matters.

newsletter.

Upcoming Milestones
- Continue with safety and health training with emphasis on the newly
