Youth Link Disclaimer

You have selected a link to information about work that may not be legal or safe for you to do. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Child Labor Laws prohibit teens younger than 18 from working in certain jobs that are considered hazardous. Teens younger than 18 years of age may not work in or with identified Hazardous Occupations (HO). Hazardous Occupations are listed by Hazardous Occupation Number 1-17. For example, in the Hospital eTool - Heliport Module, certain restrictions for youth include:

If you are

14-15 years old: You need special training to work on a hospital heliport. Talk to a hospital administrator about what jobs may be appropriate for you.

16-17 years old: The FLSA states that you are not allowed to operate motorized vehicles that transport patients to and from the heliport (HO 2). For additional information on this requirement, see 29 CFR 570.52, Occupations of motor-vehicle driver and outside helper (Order 2).

Note: The Child Labor Laws in your state may be more strict. Consult your state's labor department for more information.
